Past Productions

A taste of what Understudy Productions has done in the past .

A Very Naughty Christmas is a comedy cabaret which pokes fun at traditional Christmas Concerts. It features burlesque, drag, and a range of phenomenal singing and dancing styles. A Very Naughty Christmas was inspired by the yearly celebration producer and co-creator Alex Woodward hosted called “Friends’ Christmas”. “My friends and I would get together and all wear sexy Christmas outfits: somebody would be an elf; somebody would be a ‘Camp Santa’ or ‘Naughty Mrs. Claus’. Santa would hand out the worst possible gifts he could find at a two dollar store and we would all bring food and wine to share. It was a great way to celebrate Christmas with our non- related family.” In adapting this idea for the stage, the creators — Dan Venz, Matthew Semple, and Alexander Woodward — set out to capture this “Friends’ Christmas” spirit, and to contrast the usual tradition of reverent, candle-lit carols in a park or church. With a focus on cheeky fun, audiences are invited to eat, drink and be merry — regardless of beliefs.
